Five Questions for Lisa Douglas

Q:What has your “climb up the corporate ladder” consisted of?
A:Prior to working at EMS, I worked with a Public Accounting firm, and then moved to an Internal Audit position with a technology company downtown and on to my current position here at EMS.
Q:What skill do you feel is your biggest asset in performing your job?
A:Organization. If I was not organized it would be difficult to track projects since I juggle a lot of different projects at once. Knowing where information is and being able to produce it in response to an auditor request is imperative. In addition, proficiency in programs like Excel help when analyzing results and allow me to work more efficiently.
Q:Can you describe a typical day?
A:Busy. Different duties every day, especially during financial close. My tasks can range from working through contract revenue information, to reviewing the various accounts during close, and even helping to review information reported to our investors. No one day matches another except for during month end/quarter end close when they are all hectic!
Q:In your opinion, what sets EMS apart from competitors?
A:I’m number-focused so my world revolves around the numbers and doesn’t really impact EMS in a competitive sense. I am responsible for translating day-to-day operations into financial results that are reported to the public and compared to our competitors. Making sure they are reported in accordance with accounting laws is very important.
Q:What advice could you offer to potential EMS employees-either regarding your field or the Company?
A:Finance is a great place to work…there is always something new happening at EMS – especially with the acquisitions. I found it difficult to continue my learning curve in previous positions, but I feel like I am always learning something new here. I would definitely recommend this field – you either love it or hate it, but it’s a very stable field.
