Executive Bios — Stephen Newell

As the vice president of Satcom sales, Stephen Newell heads the company’s global team selling mobile satellite systems into military programs and corporations worldwide. Newell is a member of EMS SATCOM's executive management group, which reports to general manager Gary Hebb.

Newell joined EMS SATCOM’s military sales team in 2003 and served as director of military sales and vice president of military and government sales before being promoted to vice president of Satcom sales in 2007. Newell was responsible for the company’s major military program wins and for accounts like Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

Newell attributes his group’s success to being attuned to military bandwidth requirement and purchasing preferences. In his role as VP of military and government sales, he fostered the development of several EMS SATCOM systems specifically designed to meet military program platform requirements. Today EMS SATCOM systems are the leading choice for military airborne satellite communication systems. In 2005, EMS SATCOM received the Frost and Sullivan award for Command and Control enabling technology.

Prior to joining EMS SATCOM, Newell was Manager of Avionics Systems at AIRIA, Inc. where he was responsible for the development of the company’s Inmarsat based aeronautical TV system. He held a Product Manager position at Racal Avionics Inc. where he managed the company’s Inmarsat DBS Satcom antenna. Newell gained his engineering foundation serving as an submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1989.

Newell spends much of his time traveling to EMS SATCOM customers and partners around the world. When not on the road, he can be found at home in Washington where he resides with his wife and three young children.
